A Natural Beauty Regimen Each Runner Should Have

If you're a runner, you know that running can take a toll on your skin. From increased sweat and exposure to the elements, it's important to follow a runner's skincare regimen to keep your skin and hair looking and feeling healthy. As a professional runner and natural skincare products expert, I'm here to share the secrets to my running beauty regimen. With the right products and habits, you can keep your skin looking and feeling great, even after a long run.

Find your skin type before building a routine.

The beauty regimen steps are the same for any skin type, but the difference is those beauty products should match each individual's unique skin concerns. Before beginning your routine, it’s important to identify your skin type in order to select the right products. There are five main types of skin: normal, combination, oily, dry and sensitive skin. Once you have identified your skin type, you can create a personalised pre-run and post-run beauty regimen that works best for you.

Pre-run beauty routine

Before you hit the trail, make sure to incorporate these pre-run beauty routine steps:

Step 1: Cleanse - Make sure your skin is clean and free of any makeup, dirt, and pollutants before you start running. Use a gentle cleanser that is right for your skin type and make sure to thoroughly rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Step 2: Toner - Apply toner to your face to help restore your skin's natural pH balance. Choose a toner that is specifically designed for your skin type to ensure the best results.

Step 3: Moisturiser - Apply moisturiser to hydrate and protect your skin from the sun's rays and from windburn. Pick a lightweight formula that won't clog your pores.

Step 4: Address Skin Concerns - If you have any specific skin issues such as acne, pigmentation, or wrinkles, use targeted treatments to address them. Choose products with active ingredients that can help reduce the appearance of these issues.

Step 5: Sunscreen and Lip Care - Before heading out, make sure to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Also, don't forget to apply lip balm with SPF protection to help keep your lips healthy and hydrated during your run.

Post Run Beauty Routine

The post-run beauty routine should follow the same steps as the pre-run routine. If your run takes place early in the morning or during the day, use the same steps as you would in your pre-run routine. However, if your run occurs in the evening, the last step should be switched to a night moisturiser rather than a sunscreen.

As after each run you take a shower and cleanse your skin, beauty products can end up quickly. Here are some natural homemade recipes for you to make.

• Exfoliate 1-2 times a week - this helps to remove dead skin cells and make your skin look brighter. Take 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup oil of coconut or olive oil and mix together in a bowl. Apply in circular motion.

• Apply a natural face mask - this can help to deeply cleanse and detoxify your skin. You can easily make a face mask at home with natural ingredients such as avocado and bentonite clay.

• Drink plenty of water - hydration is key for healthy, glowing skin. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day will help to keep your skin hydrated and nourished.

By following these tips, you can maintain a healthy, glowing complexion even during those long runs.

Final thoughts

Having a pre-run and post-run beauty regimen can seem overwhelming at first, but once you find the right products for your skin type and have them ready on your vanity table, it becomes much easier to stick with.

Happy Running!
